On Saturday 23 November the Friends of Charnock Recreation Ground were presented with The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of the work they have done in regenerating the local park. The award was presented by the Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire and Humberside and the Lord Mayor of Sheffield Councillor Vickie Priestley. Birley Ward Councillor Karen McGowan attended the presentation and said “It was great for the hardwork of the Friends of Charnock Recreation Ground to be recognised. Since they have been formed they have raised a staggering £229,000. This all stemmed from a conversation about the poor state of the park area by a few mums outside the school gates. Well done everyone”.
