On Saturday 5 April the Birley Ward Councillors joined the Hollinsend Cricket Club on their Cricket Force Weekend – an event held to prepare for the upcoming cricket season. Events included litter picking around the grounds, painting of the club house and preparation of the grounds. The Birley Blitz litter pick event involved the East Youth Forum, Sheffield Youth Justice Service, Sheffield City Council Parks and Countryside Department and local residents. Over 25 bags of rubbish which included a bus stop sign, traffic cone and a gate were cleared from the surrounding edges on Fox Lane Playing field/Hollinsend Cricket Club. Councillor Karen McGowan said “this was the fourth Birley Blitz event we have organised in the Birley Ward and we were pleased to also be joined by local residents.” Councillor Bryan Lodge said “I would like to add a big thank you everyone who helped and thank you to the Cricket Club for the tea, coffee and bacon butties which were very welcome!”
