Good News for Frecheville & Gleadless Libraries

Local Birley Ward Councillors have been working with two groups of volunteers that have set up to run Frecheville and Gleadless Libraries.

Both groups have been informed that their initial business plans have succeeded in passing the second stage (1st stage was registration of interest).

Progression to the third stage (full business plan) is now subject to a decision by the Councils Cabinet, which will consider a cabinet report, consultation results, needs assessment and equality impact assessment.

Councillor Karen McGowan said “I just want to say a big thank you to these two groups of community volunteers for all their hard work so far. The groups appreciate the difficult financial situation the council is in and are working hard with the Council and local Councillors to ensure Frecheville and Gleadless libraries are retained for the community”.

Congratulations Mike!

Mike DrabbleBirley Labour Party Chair, Mike Drabble, has been  successful in winning the Arbourthorne by election. Cllr Drabble fills the vacant seat on Sheffield City Council following the death last year of popular councillor, Cllr John Robson. John will be a hard act to follow but we’re sure that Mike is up to it.

Congratulations Mike!
