70 Year Anniversary Frecheville and District Branch Royal British Legion

Your Birley Ward councillors have worked for many years with the local Royal British Legion (RBL) branch and were pleased and very proud to be invited to the recent celebration and rededication service held at Christ Church, Hackenthorpe on 2nd December. The founders 70 years ago set up a branch to further the aims of the RBL and the members continue to this day to support those who have served in the armed forces.

In recent years, working with the RBL and other Veteran Groups in the ward, we have supported a number of initiatives, the latest of these seeing the installation of a second interpretation board on Heathfield Road, and the rededication of the trees of remembrance. In the centenary year of the end of the First World War, we have also secured the installation of a bench, dedicated to the memory of those from the wider area who gave their lives in the service of their country.

In November, we were pleased to support the Notice Of Motion at Full Council to install a plaque to commemorate the Sheffield Pals who took the Kings Shilling in the council chamber. A petition presented by the Chair of the RBL Frecheville Branch, Pat Davey, supported the call and members of the branch heard your councillors speak in support of the proposal.
