Referendum … This is it! 2016. – A sonnet from one of our members

One small cross (x), we know what’s at stake,

No turning back, our future we’ll take.

Parliamentarian’s, resigning, with spin,

We’ve voted for out, closely, not in.

Family and friends split, the last, our Civil War,

Rift, as deep as a gorge, for both rich and poor.

Consequence we’ll live with, accepting the score,

Whether were harmed, refreshed, or forlorn.

Do not harbour loud distain,

We’ll negotiate out … Starting the chain.

Do not families split or, part,

Family chasms … Bridge a restart.

Do not sustain an unhappy heart,

Agree a truce … Forge together a chart.

  1. Readers may recall my remarks about the referendum where I suggested those Leading the Leave Europe campaign had no idea what
they were doing.Today we are informed that the first formal meeting
between the EU and Britain will take place after the German Elections in September 2017. Some time in October 2017 that is over
a year from now. From the point of view of Britain this is bad news, however we cannot say we were not told how difficult it could be if we voted to leave Europe. It is not enough for Theresa May
to say Brexit means Brexit. When asked what that actually means
the Prime Minister has no explanation.
