Residents contacted Councillor Denise Fox regarding issues of speeding vehicles on Fox Lane. The brow of the hill makes it dangerous for residents entering or leaving their driveways. Councillor Fox was joined by Councillor Karen McGowan when she set up a community speed watch session with the police on 14 September Councillor Fox is also working with officers to get the speed reduced from 40 mph to 30 mph in this location.
Heathfield Road Memorial
Article by Councillor Denise Fox
A brand new memorial bench was unveiled on 15 August 2018 at Heathfield Road in Frecheville to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in WW1.
The service was well attended by local veterans, members of the Royal British Legion as well as local ward councillors and residents.
As part of the service, the nearby avenue of trees, planted in memory of soldiers who lost their lives in WW2, was also rededicated.
Cllr Denise Fox said
“We have worked closely with the Royal British Legion to ensure the memorial, which includes 19 trees planted in memory of soldiers who fought in WW2, can continue to provide a suitable place for people to pay their respects for generations to come.”
In addition to remembering those from Frecheville who fought in WW1 and WW2, the service held even more poignancy as it took place on VJ day; when allied nations celebrated victory over Japan, marking the end of WW2.”
Fundraising at Wortley Hall
On Sunday 12 August the Birley Ward Councillors had stalls at the South Yorkshire Festival at Wortley Hall. This year we had Santa on holiday (yes in August!) as well as Teddy Tubbies and Hook a Bag. Birley Ward Councillors support this event and use the opportunity to fundraise to pay for their local election leaflets.
